I do think that the guys who did hack the programm ( if they even did coz no doubt some Anet peeps told people around them ) deserve getting a permanent ban, but no way the others should.
I also think that Anet should maybe more concentrate on getting all the thousands of bots banned, and the ip's aswell, but ofcourse they buy more games, so they don't say anything : GG anet.
Most of these players have spend a couple thousand hours each playing GW. And now they got banned because ANet isn't capable do do there job correctly. None of this would ever have happened if they corected this exploit when they had to.

So Anet did its job badly because they banned people who hacked their servers and exploited this? Come on, you're just defending them because they're people you knew. They are guilty of breaking the EULA terms and that in itself should be all there is to be able to ban someone. Most people knew it was illegal after the second time. Bots are being banned, there are just a massive number of them.

the main problem i have with this...is the people that were "dragged" or taken along to beat mallyx...yes then new it was an exploit...but they did not know it was a true "hack" why were they banned? because of an exploit?
Then how come all of the highend traders that traded items for duped armbraces back during the item dupe weren't banned...only those select few who actually did the duped were banned...not those who reaped the benefits tho...same with this... ban the ones that hacked don't ban the ones that didn't!

Let's put it into real world terms - a robber breaks down a door in order to burgle a house. When he leaves, he leaves the door open. Other people discover the open door, and proceed to help themselves to the rest of the houses contents.
You don't have to break down the door to commit a crime. It's called "Being an Accessory to".
However, I feel for the people who got banned after reporting the hack in true good faith (unless that is their "But this is MY story of innocence!!11).

And they are increasing every day, but I don't see a GM in Shing Jea International with a clipboard and a pen marking every name and account down for bannage.

So you just contradicted yourself there Arkantos.
If what you say is true, then how did 117ppl all of a sudden got the allmighty power to hack that safe client.
Maybe those 117 super hackers should hack the client again and unban themselves.
Guess what, those 117 -1 real hacker, they can't do that, they can't hack the client, yet they got banned for that.
hello logic? Lost me there...

Yes I was one of the people that was dragged along not knowing what it was at first.
And I went along with my friends because they said they need people and I thought it was just some fun thing to try like The Deep and Urgoz.
And don't try to tell me if you had the chance to do this you wouldn't....I am just saying.

Well how many of the C++ writers out there would actually take their time to hack this game 1 in a 1000 and there are hardly enough people that would hack this game for fun they do it for profit. Or so they can actually get the ingame items from the lucky people that can get them. or maybe that one person did this hack so that they could get the 3million gold needed to buy some max titles.

Please tell me where I said someone cannot hack toe client. I said it's possible to hack the client, but it's harder then the user is saying it is.

Again, if the game was as easy to hack as you think it is, it would get hacked more often. Seeing as the game is not hacked a lot, it's not as easy as you're trying to say.

After my findings I deleted all my quest rewards, removed my character from the outpost, and opened up a support ticket with Guild Wars Support and informed my alliance leaders to warn their guilds.
They said that they appreciated my findings and that people like me help keep the game running smooth. Two days later, I try and log on to my account and it says that I am permanently banned. This is what I get when I try and help? I got no reward for testing the exploit, only a ban and a kick in the face.

Just contact Support, and work it out with them. You should get your account back in no time. During the duping fiasco, a couple of guys worked out how it worked (on a red dye) and reported their findings to A-net. They were banned, but got their accounts back within hours.
As for calling it an "exploit:" - Hogwash! It's a HACK. The guilty party leaders had to alter the game mechanics to create the method of abuse. Trying to soften it up by calling it a 'bug" or "exploit" is utter garbage.
To equate this with text-mod is also rather simplistic, too. Text-mod only affects what the player sees on their screen. It does not affect regular game-play in any way. This hack affects game play and has a negative effect on the game economy.
To the justifiably banned I say: Good riddance to bad rubbish!

I don't believe they do. I heard (yes, my 'source' again ) this exploit has been around for 6 months. SIX MONTHS. It wouldn't take that long to fix something this serious.

I took this from the original "BUG" poster.

While I'm glad A.net took quick action, the fact that this exploit was possible at all does severely shake my confidence in their server security. If somebody could access a test feature like this, what else could be broken into? Could somebody give themselves titles like rank 9 gamer or rank 14 hero (I know for a fact they test titles on the test servers)? All this really does open a can of wurms.

Yup Yup. The youthful misplaced sense of anarchy still amuses me. Not every big corporate is out to Screw The Man.
There's teenage rebellion, and then there's just plain common sense. Come on Innocence Protesters, nut up. You do something wrong, you gotta suffer the consequences.

If it is a "HACK".
It was only the first guy that "hacked" and created this mess.
Therefore 116 players should be unbanned.

If they had known about it for six months, why did it take so long to get fixed in the first place. They fixed the duping glitch almost instantly with a new build and a few days work.

Correct me if i'm wrong but since when is clicking [Leave Guild Hall] a hack? Guilty party leaders? Are you kidding me? So.. 117 HACKERS decided to hack the game and just by chance they all hacked the same thing in the game?

What about the true innocents? What about people that were dragged there, and then warped out immediately? What about them (definitely not me)?
